My daughter has curly and dry hair any suggestions?

My daugher is african american and white. Her hair is so dry and very curly. We have tried every product out there. She likes it flat ironed and it seems like it gets more dry when we do that, also she hates when it gets "poofy" . Can anyone help?

I have 2 mixed children myself and i am a hairdresser, only wash her hair once a week and yes a flat iron will do nothing but damage more and more. I use Pink Oil Moisturizer everyday and u have to use alot and if u do want to flat iron get you some hot iron protecting spray and u cant get this at a store it does have to be a beauty store. Try that and see how it works.

I am also mixed and face the same problems I've found that natural products like essential oils such as rosmary, lavendar and jojoba really help when added to my shampoo just remember that they can be really potant so only add a little! Also she should take a break fom the flat iron from time to time the heats only making her hair worse

Conditioner is the key!!! Make sure that wehen your daughter uses conditioner while in the shower, to leave it on for about 3-5 minutes. I would also suggest a deep conditiong once a week for 20 minutes.

Conditioning and hot oil treatments - both can be done at home. 1-2 times a week for each, but not at the same time, do either:

Wash and put conditioner on it. Coat the hair, comb through, and wear a plastic shower cap for about 20-25 minutes. The shower cap helps the hair shaft open with the heat from the scalp (body heat), and the shaft can absorb the conditioner. Or use a hooded dryer for 10 minutes. Rinse.

Warm hair oil - any kind that has good oils in it - on a hot plate, or over stove heat. Microwaves separate the molecules, and the oil is no longer helpful. Apply the hair and put on shower cap for about 10 minutes. Don't put a lot because you won't rinse this.

Hop this helps!!!

Please take it from me!! My momma is white im mixed and when i was younger i had the same problem. Use a mist moisterizer try nubian heritages shea butter mousterizing mist works great softens and detangles. To style it natural: fill a spritz bottle with warm water Section her hair into 6 sections Spritz each section evenly until moistened use a wide tooth comb to comb each secftion after its spritzed to create seperat waves/curls then Spritz hair sections one by one evenly with the moisterizer being cautious not to unravel or lossen any curl/wave section next flip her head so the curls hang freely as to remove the parted lines Next rub a grape sized amount of flexible conditioning gel ( Lets Jam) in your hand and through her upside down head coating the entier head wrap hair in a towel for 15-20 minutes and remove!!!!!! sounds like alot but doesnt take long and you get better with practice on what works with your head and what dosent ....Hope this helps!!!

try a defrizzing serum or hair lotion . I have frizzy hair to and it works for me.

- Read the book and visit the sites below about curly hair. I did and my once horrible curly hair is now virtually frizz-free ringlets. Now I get compliments on my hair all the time! Straighten curly hair- be happy for a day, learn to manage curly hair- be happy for life!

-The main philosophy of the curly-girl method is to not use shampoo. This may sound unhygenic but it has actually made my hair less oily and dandruffy. Most shampoos contain some of the same chemicals found in laundry detergent (aka sodium lauryl sulfate or anything close to that). They dry out curly hair. Conditioner can aptly be used to wash the scalp and hair.

- I don't know much about that specific type of curly hair (I am caucasian and probably do not have the same hair texture), so I couldn't recommend many good products. Do stay away from silicones products if your daughter decides to stop shampooing because they cause build up. Check out naturally curly and curly girl for specific products and routines. Hope this helps!
