Your hair is dead once it grows out from your scalp so when it gets damaged, there is nothing that will help it go back to its original condition. Conditioners may help your hair feel a little better, but it won't actually repair the damage.

Sorry, but you may end up having to trim off the damaged part.

Here is a suggestion from my wife who has dry curly hair (permed):

I use an ethnic product that I get at Wal-Mart called "Golden Curl." Look in the African American hair products and it is of course in a gold bottle. It only takes a little, so don't overdue it.

I had excactly that problem, first get it trimmed and make sure you do it every 6 weeks, then use a hot oil treatment every fortnight and instead of using a deep nourishing conditioner which are often very expensive just leave your normal conditioner in for 10 minutes. All that works wonders and when you do use heat stylers always use heat protection before you apply the heat! ;)

Well, what a lot of people do not recognize is that your hair is already dead. What you are doing is just trying to keep them preserved to look nice.

Here are my tips. I do not know your race, type of hair, thickness, or length, so please go easy if you have fine thin hair. Do this once every two weeks. Wash your hair without any shampoo or conditioner, just water. Instead of using expensive hot oil treatments for your hair, take some extra virgin olive oil (about 1 cup) and pour it into a bowl. Warm it in the microwave for about 30 sec. it should be warm to the touch, so not to burn your scalp. You take a wide tooth comb and work the oil into your hair, from scalp to ends. Twist hair up lightly, not tight, into a clean moist warm towel ( you can place in water and then microwave the towel for about a min.) Hold it up for 3-5 mins.

What this will do is penetrate the cuticle shafts of your hair. The warm heat will open the shafts and the oil will moisturize the follicles. Once you let it set for the time. Take the towel off and put that in your laundry. Rinse your hair with warm water and do not wash it. If you can comb threw your hair slowly and easy, so not to rip hair while it is tender. Allow it to air dry.

You have to understand the shampoos are filled with lots of unnatural chemicals that eat away at your hair. Go to your hardware store and look for a Ph Test strip paper. Ask the store service center, they can tell you about it. Take the strips and put your shampoo on it. You can see how alkaline (harsh acids that eat hair and dry it out), the soap is. Also test the water in your home (too much chemicals in the tap water can dry out skin and hair). If you want to restore hair, you need to test any shampoos you want to use. There is a guide on the strips that can help, but you want it to turn green, any bright colors are bad. If you want to use dryers, they are okay, but use thermasilk (no,generic) it does well protecting the hair, but use only their styling products. If you can air dry, then go with Pantene (I do not use them cause of the company). However you might want to, the soap is mild for the hair. Wash your hair after you work out or mon-wed-fri. and sunday. Let your hair rest from the chemicals.

AVOID hair dyes, perms, (if you swim alot, take olive oil and saturate hair before going into water, about 15 mins before)styling products that contain more than 10 chemical compounds or any other chemical treatments. Those are the most reasons why womens hair look like poop! Many of these tips will help your hair get tamed, it will not make it perfect again. Nothing will, however within year of doing this your hair will look better. The hair that falls out is not bad, rather it is the old damaged parts that will be replaced. The new hair will grow in strong. Do not rush combing hair, the hair is tender and needs you to slowly work out knots. In about 2 years, your hair will got back to normal.

On a personal note: my hair is thich and fine, it took my hair about 3 years to grow a 1/2 in. So I had to find something that worked. I found that women in the late 1870's %26amp; early 1900's did this. Of course the water they used was rain water (pre-soften) and their hair was beautiful. They ate more vit.E and fish, which increases healthy hair and growth. My dried short hair from H.S. was restored to my mid-back after 7 long years of treatment. Looks great, soft to the touch. My sweet heart loves my hair long, so extra bonus!
